Senior Test Engineer, based remotely.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Test Engineer to join our central data team at and Jet2Holidays as we continue our journey towards becoming a fully data-driven organisation and embed a data-first culture across our business. Reporting to our Test Lead, you will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary, agile, data delivery team, focused on the delivery of innovative, robust, and efficient data solutions to complex business problems.

Working as One Team alongside other passionate data professionals, you will partner with other test engineers, data and analytics engineers, data scientists and data visualisation specialists. As a wider data team, our priority is the delivery of high-quality, well-modelled, clean, and trustworthy data assets for use across the business. Our data teams also Take Responsibility and work hard to support all our data assets, ensuring maximum benefit realisation and return on investment.

What will you do in the role?

Our Senior Test Engineer will be primarily responsible for three key areas; data delivery, test practice and mentoring. You will also work to support cross-team collaboration and common standards as part of the wider data team. Activities include: -
  • Ensuring the quality of the data assets being developed for the business
  • Working with the wider delivery team to assess the appropriate level of testing for each piece of work, followed by the planning, execution and documentation of testing carried out
  • Taking Responsibility for guiding the test effort within your team to ensure that work is completed to time and quality goals
  • Working with our Test Leads and Test Manager to continually improve our data test practices and processes
  • Helping to develop Agile Data Testing methodologies and Automated Data Testing processes
  • Mentoring more junior colleagues, helping them develop their technical and non-technical skills and supporting their progression
  • Helping to support non-test colleagues with a wider understanding of the test discipline and associated challenges helping to contribute towards our One Team’ mindset

What are the key skills/experience you’ll already have?

Our Senior Test Engineer will have previous experience of automated data testing and the creation of automated data testing frameworks across technology platforms (cloud data platforms preferred) as well as experience of integration of test output into automated deployment pipelines (CI\\CD). You will also: -
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable communicating and building relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Have prior mentoring experience or be willing to develop skills in this area to support the growth of our data testing practice
  • Have expertise across all parts of the testing process; including test planning, estimation, execution, defect management, reporting and escalation, ideally in a data-related team (e.g. data warehousing, data engineering, reporting, data visualisation)
  • Any test certification such as ISTQB would be highly desirable
  • Have experience working in a fast-paced Agile delivery environment with a focus on rapid delivery of business value through iterative development and testing approaches
  • Be highly skilled in the use of SQL and comfortable writing complex queries and working with large, complex datasets within a data-rich environment
  • Have experience of data testing on one or more of the following technology platforms (cloud data platform experience preferred): -
  • Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS)
  • Google Cloud Platform (GCS, Google Cloud Composer, GKE, Cloud Functions, BiqQuery)
  • Snowflake Cloud Data Platform
  • dBt Data Transformation Framework
  • Tableau Data Visualisation Platform
