Sustainability Manager, based at Holiday House in Leeds City Centre.  This is a hybrid role, working 3 days a week in the office with the ability and scope to work flexibly from home for the remaining days.

Background
We recently launched our sustainability strategy JET2 NET ZERO, setting out our commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Sustainability is a topic of increasing importance and will continue to play a growing role in our business strategy. We are looking for a Sustainability Manager to help us meet our challenging targets, Take Responsibility and Work as One Team in leading the implementation of all aspects of our business strategy: “On the Ground”, “In the Air” and “in Resort”; tacking both airline and tour operator sustainability issues.

What will you do in the role?
Reporting to the General Manager – Sustainability, this broad and varied role will cover both Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, being responsible for the part-delivery of the JET2 NET ZERO sustainability strategy goals and targets, working towards finding innovative and economical ways to positively impact the environment.

Our Sustainability Manager will help us lead the way on the decarbonisation of the aviation sector, implement our decarbonisation flight path and assist us in adopting new technologies/ energy sources, using sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). They will also:
  • Find opportunities with the Sustainability and Business Development Director / GM Sustainability to promote Jet2.com and Jet2holidays sustainability leadership, using best practice to increase media interest in the JET2 NET ZERO Strategy
  • Collaborate with all areas of the leisure business, supply chain partners (particularly hotels), colleagues, customers and local communities across all jurisdictions that we operate in, maintaining ongoing, up to date and in-depth understanding of relevant legislation
  • Be responsible for the formation and execution of appropriate narratives that explain Jet2.com and Jet2holidays sustainability targets/goals, through impactful messaging and content, targeted for specific stakeholders
  • Prioritise communications channels to maximise impact on target audiences, including the public, customers, communities, media and employees
  • Work with Marketing and PR, craft and manage press releases, promoting sustainability across the business and wider community, verifying and checking the validity of press releases and documents prepared by outside agencies
  • Work closely with Directors and ICE Groups, identifying opportunities to reduce our carbon footprint, reduce the use of plastic and other harmful products wherever possible and maximise the amount of recyclable waste
  • Work alongside Finance & Sustainably team colleagues to deliver the voluntary carbon offsetting scheme, including for annual reporting as well as other internal and external communication
  • Support our UK & EU ETS/CORSIA and voluntary carbon buying strategy
  • Manage and mentor a team of Sustainability Executives, ensuring optimal performance and prioritisation of personal development
  • Work with our hotel partners to help obtain the sustainability certification under a GSTC recognised scheme through our Hotel Sustainability Charter by 2023
  • Represent Jet2.com and report back on meetings held with the ABTA, Sustainable Aviation and Airlines for Europe, developing regular communications with GSTC and other appropriate partners
  • Promote and safeguard the Company’s brand and reputation
  • Design, plan and promote the Company’s Corporate Social responsibilities
  • Work closely with supply chain partners, ensuring every effort is made to minimise negative impacts on the environment of products produced and supplied to the business, whilst ensuring production methods/ products contribute to a sustainable future
  • Explore alternative products to meet changes in packaging habits, identifying more sustainable packaging for roll-out across the business
  • Manage Company obligations under waste packaging regulations
  • Work with local areas of the business to develop local initiatives in the community
  • Identify, lead and deliver projects as required to support key business objectives/deliverables
  • Attend sustainability conferences to learn about sustainability thinking, products and strategies
  • Ensure commercial consideration is taken when implementing all activities relating to this role.
What are the key skills / experience you’ll already have?
Our Sustainability Manager will have significant experience in ESG, sustainability and/or corporate social responsibility-focused communication efforts or environmental science. You will also:
  • Have strong influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Have strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Be commercially astute and used to setting and managing a budget
  • Be a good cultural fit; fast-moving, resilient, energetic and flexible with a commitment to delivery
  • Have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.
  • Have stature, gravitas, determination and the highest level of integrity
  • Be driven and results-orientated, with a personal leadership style
  • Be an excellent communicator with strong presentation skills and a collaborator, able to work at all levels of the business with the confidence and credibility to support stakeholders and challenge in a constructive way
